Since the return to on-campus learning, we have been focusing on rhythm and time as the main subject of our music sessions. Students have discussed time signatures and how they are applied to music, as well as keeping time. As it is one of the most important elements of music, at Met we wanted our students to learn the basic functionality and approach to proper timekeeping. For this, we use the drum-set. The students obtain a better understanding of how complex even the simplest of drumbeats can be. We will continue for the next few weeks with this same subject and play more rhythmic games to better instill these core fundamentals.
