Grade 6 Curriculum

Grade 6 ELA

The Grade 6 ELA curriculum is designed as a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum that focuses on developing strong reading, writing, and language skills. This program aims to equip students with critical reading and writing capabilities, emphasizing the importance of culturally responsive books and teaching materials that reflect the diversity of cultures. This approach helps students understand themselves and each other better, fostering inclusivity and respect. Grade 6 students cite textual evidence to support analysis, determine a theme or central idea, and determine the meaning of words and phrases, including figurative and connotative. Students determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and explain how it is conveyed in the text. In writing, students develop arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence and write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts with clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization and style are appropriate to grade level expectations.

Grade 6 Math

In the Grade 6 Math curriculum, students will work the world of mathematical problem-solving using ratio and rate reasoning, connecting fractions, decimals, and percents. They will master computing with multi-digit numbers and fractions, practicing plotting integers and rational numbers on number lines and coordinate planes. Students will also develop the skills to write and evaluate numerical and algebraic expressions, solving one-step equations and inequalities. By exploring tables, equations, and graphs, they will express relationships between variables, while also learning to find areas of various shapes like parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids on both regular grids and coordinate planes. Additionally, students will calculate the volume of rectangular prisms and surface areas of different prisms and pyramids. Lastly, they will learn to interpret and utilize statistical measures to deepen their understanding of the world of mathematics

School Supplies

All students must bring school supplies on the first day of class. Supplies will not be accepted if brought on orientation day or earlier. Each subject's supplies must be in separate, clearly labelled bags with the subject, child’s name, and class. Combined supplies in one bag will not be accepted.

School Supplies

(Grade 6 to Grade 8)

For EC Homeroom classes (Pre-K to KG2), all supplies will be pooled together and shared equally in the class as needed. For Grades 1 and 2 Homeroom classes, each child will have his/her own individual supplies, which can be brought in a school supply box and stored in the student’s desk or cubby in the classroom.
Please note that KG2, Grade 1, and Grade 2 have divided their supply lists by quarter so that supplies can be replenished each quarter.
