During the second quarter, the students in grades 6-8 have been learning about modeling and printing in three dimensions. Using the student compatible on-line version of the Solidworks 3-D modeling application (swappsforkids.com), students learned the fundamental techniques for modeling three-dimensional objects. Using one of their models, the students reviewed the procedure for preparing their model for 3-D printing. Engaging in a cooperative classroom activity, the students created a poster outlining the steps needed to successfully generate the required file to be sent to the 3-D printer. The students then developed a model of a useful, personal object (backpack I.D. tag, keychain fob, etc) to be 3-D printed with our Sindoh 3DWOX printer.
