In the first ELA module for grade 1, students are learning all about tools. In this lesson, students learn about tools and work by considering the best tools for specific tasks. Students examine the guiding question, “Why do we need tools?” as they interact with and read about tools. Students build their knowledge of tools by completing “tool challenges.” Each challenge presents students with a dilemma based on the question, “Which tool is best for the job?” As students engage in the challenges, they experience using tools for themselves. Today, they’re learning about math and science tools.
