Literacy Week

One of the central purposes of our school is to ensure that students develop the necessary literacy skills to succeed in school and in life.

Literacy is the ability to use all four areas of communication effectively; reading, writing, and speaking, and listening.

Every year at Met we like to celebrate Literacy Week with our students during ELA and specialists classes. Our goal is to inspire children to love reading for fun and to develop and improve this area of communication. Literacy Week at Met will run from Sunday 21st – Thursday 25th March. During this week, we will be encouraging students to read and have fun in taking part in some literacy activities. Happy Reading everyone!

Mystery Reader:

Shhhhh, it’s a secret! Students were surprised to be read to by Met teachers and Admin team during library classes this year. Our teachers and admin team arranged to pop into library classes and read a favorite story aloud to students with some literacy-based activities related to the stories. Thank you to teachers and admin members who surprised children and made it a memorable event!

Also, we were happy to have the Arabic Department organizing literacy-based activities for the students. Today G4 was introduced to Nagib Mahfouz and some of his books, then they took part in a writing activity about him. Thanks to the Arabic department for their contribution to Literacy Week this year.

Dress up :
Hats off to Reading Day! Students are giving praise to reading and literacy by wearing their favorite hat/wig. At Met we want all students to enjoy reading. It opens doors to every type of communication including writing and speaking.

“Creatures, Wild Minds!” Students and teachers were encouraged to go wild and dress up as their favorite book character! This is to foster the love of reading and have fun wearing different characters on this day. Characters are one of the story elements, this element determines the way the plot will develop. Readers can experience the world that is created in the story through characters.

“Read my Shirt Day!” G4-G9 students were motivated to read their peers’ shirts! This initiative is to promote reading habits and awareness of the world around them. Happy Reading!
